Customer Service of the Year: Hamshire Lodge / Sharon and Julian Ford

AFTER taking over the tenancy of the Hampshire Lodge on 1 September 2019, Sharon Ford and her husband Julian thought, ‘this is our chance’. Nearly a year later, Deborah Hollingworth has nominated the couple for the Cherry Godfrey-sponsored Customer Service of the Year award.

Ms Hollingworth said: ‘Since taking over the Hampshire Lodge the Fords have worked incredibly hard to build a fabulous community pub with lots of activities and a full entertainment programme.’

The activities and entertainment on offer at the venue include regular pool competitions, darts competitions, beer bingo, and live music.

Music is put on two times per month, out of respect for those neighbouring the pub.

Ms Hollingworth said that the couple coped well when lockdown was introduced in Guernsey and that it was amazing to see them straight back on the job when lockdown was eased.

Mrs Ford told us that while live music had to be cancelled, the couple were still able to safely host a meat draw at the pub, going so far as to deliver meat to the winners to reduce contact.

Ms Hollingworth also appreciates the personality of the hosts.

‘Sharon is a fabulous host, always smiling, and Jules is a larger than life character who never fails to entertain.’
