CHRIS SMITH has lived next to Nikkie Kerr for more than four years and has nominated her for the Guernsey Gas-sponsored Neighbour of the Year award.
She said that Mrs Kerr is a wonderful neighbour and friend.
‘She is always there, in her quiet, unassuming way, to help anyone with anything. I’ve lost count of the number of times she has been there for me personally.’
Mrs Smith said that Mrs Kerr is someone she can rely on whatever the circumstances.
‘I could phone her at any time of day or night and she’d come out and help.’
They live in an assisted living complex with more than 70 residents, but Mrs Smith said she visits anyone who falls ill or leaves them a present to brighten their day.
‘If she knows someone is ill here, she’ll go round and visit them.’
Mrs Smith said that Mrs Kerr is a popular figure at the complex.
‘She’s well known here. Anybody who mixes socially here will know her very well.’
Mrs Kerr’s acts of kindness have included leaving cakes on Mrs Smith’s shelf and, on one occasion, preparing a surprise meal for her.
‘I’d love her to win this prize to show our appreciation for everything she does.’
