‘ONE of the most caring gents I know’ is how one nominator described publican Richard Skipper.

Put forward separately by three of his neighbours, Marisa Robilliard, Sarnia Help and Gary Sheppard, for the Guernsey Gas-sponsored Neighbour of the Year award, Mr Skipper, affectionately known as ‘Skip’, has been praised for his community spirit.

Mr Skipper runs The Plough Inn in Vauvert and his Plough Out initiatives raise money for various charitable causes, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Guernsey Mind, and he was also applauded for his efforts during lockdown.

‘Skip is one of the most caring gents I know,’ said Ms Robilliard.

‘He often gets involved in community initiatives and during the pandemic teamed up with Contree Mansell Stores to organise deliveries of essentials to elderly and vulnerable people in the community in St Peter Port.

‘He is one in a million and totally deserves to be recognised.’

Ms Help agreed.

‘Community is important to Richard and through his pub he raises money for local good causes.

‘He also helps out with collections for the food bank operated at Trinity Church.’
