A QUEEN’S NURSE has been nominated for the Ravenscroft-sponsored Angel of the Year award.

Ellen Phillips, who has been a nurse for more than 30 years, was nominated by her close friend Helen Masterton.

Mrs Masterton said that she has always given 110% to her work, sometimes to her own detriment, and is due to retire in a few years, but has always remained quietly in the background.

Now she deserves to be recognised for her achievements.

Mrs Masterton told us how, having contracted Covid-19 some months ago, Mrs Phillips nonetheless persevered with her master’s degree at home and was able to hand in her dissertation on time.

‘Even when she was ill she wanted to get back to work and support her colleagues and as soon as she was given the all-clear, she was back to work continuing in her role.’

Mrs Masterton said that Mrs Phillips deserves the role not just because she has suffered with Covid, but because of who she is and what she has done for so many patients.

‘She is the go-to person if I have issues. She is bright and bubbly and no matter what’s going on in her life, she’ll come and rescue you.’

Mrs Masterton told us that whilst Mrs Phillips’ dissertation this year focused on the role of virtual reality in easing pain, she has previously studied wound debridement.

Mrs Masterton concluded: ‘She is just an amazing person.’
