‘WITH less than four weeks to relearn their lines, the amazing young thespians of the Alderney Youth Theatre Group brought three fantastic performances of Annie Junior to the island,’ explained Maxine Simeone, spelling out her raison d’etre for nominating the group for the Moonpig-sponsored Arts Contribution of the Year award.
The production had been originally scheduled for the end of March but, due to the restrictions in place by that time, it was postponed indefinitely. The only available time – with most of the cast on staycation at different points during the summer holidays, or leaving for college in Guernsey in September – was the first two days of the summer holiday, leaving three weeks and one day from the first rehearsal.
However, the cast, aged from nine to 16, excelled and delivered three superb performances.
‘The audience were blown away by the talents of the children, as shown by the sell-out performances and standing ovations,’ said Maxine. ‘Their talents were enhanced by the wonderful set and costumes, making this an unforgettable experience.’
