THE HSBC-sponsored award for Teacher of the Year has received a new nomination in the form of Castel Primary School head teacher Linda Paley.

It was submitted by parent Diane Perkins. Ms Paley was humbled by the recognition and said she would accept the nomination only on the condition that all her staff were acknowledged for the hard work that they do, making her work that much easier.

In her nomination, Miss Perkins said: ‘Ms Paley truly deserves this as she is just amazing and goes above and beyond to help children and parents, but when Covid-19 hit Guernsey and we went into lockdown she was absolutely amazing.

‘The daily contact with her was superb – nothing was ever too much trouble and she would do everything she could and more to help.

‘OK it’s her job, but that absolute compassion was second to none.

‘Most weeks she would print off work and send it home or leave it on the school steps to collect.

‘Ms Paley gave so much support and was absolutely faultless, she truly deserves the teacher of the year award.’
