Parent/s of the year: Family values

LOCKDOWN was hard for all of us, but arguably the unsung heroes were the mums and dads who kept things going; many were juggling working from home with childcare, being not only parents, but teachers too. That is why DWA are sponsoring the Parent/s of the Year award for this year’s Pride of Guernsey campaign.

‘Most parents do a wonderful job,’ says Penny Wilson, managing director of DWA Flooring, ‘and they don’t get the recognition they deserve for their efforts, but hopefully we can help make that happen for someone special who has gone that extra mile’.

The award is a wonderful opportunity for islanders to say a huge thank you to those mums, dads, step-parents, foster parents or guardians who do so much every day without recognition.

Penny says that DWA Flooring, a family business, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and felt that it was important for them to highlight strong, core family values and relationships.

‘Parents give up so much for their children to have the best – time, energy, money; they forfeit the luxuries of life and some have to give up so much to avoid obstacles in life. We are looking forward to hearing people’s stories and trying to pick a winner from them all will, I’m sure, be an extremely difficult task. It will be wonderful to meet these special people on the awards night itself’.
