Teacher of the year: Passion and care

AS A bank at the heart of island life, we applaud the vital role that teachers play in nurturing our future generations. The Pride of Guernsey Awards are a marvellous way to shine a light on the wonderful work of teachers, who are often quiet heroes of our community.

The Pride of Guernsey Awards are a marvellous way to shine a light on the wonderful work of teachers, who are often quiet heroes of our community.

Teachers give children purpose, set them up for success in their chosen path and impart a growth mind-set as they venture into an ever-changing world. When a teacher switches on a light in a child, it is never forgotten.

This year more than others has highlighted the invaluable role our teachers play. With incredible resilience and dedication, they have risen to the challenges of life under lockdown. Tirelessly, they have continued to educate and look after the islands’ children, standing on the front line of the island’s response to the pandemic.

The Teacher of the Year award is close to our hearts as around half our colleagues in Guernsey are parents with children in education. And nurturing future skills is at the centre of our community strategy, working with our community partner the Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney to deliver The Prince’s Trust Achieve Programme, a programme designed to support young people to reach their potential, both in education and in their future employment.

The Teacher of the Year award is a fantastic opportunity to recognise Guernsey teachers for their passion and care and to celebrate the positive differences they make to their students.
