Pride of Guernsey: Guernsey Beekeepers’ Association

THE Guernsey Beekeepers’ Association has been nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Conservation Hero of the Year Award.

THE Guernsey Beekeepers’ Association has been nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Conservation Hero of the Year Award.

The Butterfield-sponsored award recognises those working to conserve Guernsey’s environment and Steve Byrne, manager of the GSPCA, believes the association is deserving of the title in his nomination of the group and their training apiary at the shelter.

‘We are fully aware how integral bees are to nature and our natural environment and it is wonderful to see the Guernsey beekeepers promote and teach others in how to care for their own hives and promote beekeeping in Guernsey.’

He said the association was also helping to tackle the issue of the invasive Asian hornet, which puts native Guernsey bees at risk.

The association also offers advice and help to local beekeepers.
