Pride of Guernsey: Doreen Homer

A CHARITY SHOP volunteer aged 80 has been described as the real treasure in her shop by her nominator for the Alexander Daniels-sponsored Customer Service of the Year award.

Doreen Homer manages the Cheshire Home's charity shop on the Bridge most days and was nominated by Carol Priaulx.
‘Even after an hour’s journey on two buses she opens up at 8.30am,’ said Carol. ‘You will find her busy working, sorting, cleaning etc. but always with a cheerful smile and if you are down in spirits she offers a cup of tea and a listening ear.
‘At 80 years she is a wise and wonderful lady, helping many who can’t even afford to buy in the charity shop with her generosity.
‘Her compassion is endless, she herself is the most valuable treasure in her shop,’ she said.
