Pride of Guernsey: Maggie Costen and Carol Le Page

MAGGIE COSTEN and Carol Le Page have been commended by an anonymous nominator for going beyond the care of duty to raise awareness of domestic violence in the community and for the care they provide to many.

Both have been put forward for the Specsavers-sponsored Carer of the Year Award for making a life-changing difference by offering hope when needed most through the Safer domestic abuse charity.
Founded in 2013, the charity received 501 referrals of high-risk victims of domestic abuse in its first four years.
The employees work from the point of crisis to assess the level of risk, discuss suitable options and develop safety plans with each person.
‘Nothing is ever too much trouble,’ the nominator said. ‘The staff and volunteers go beyond the care of duty.
‘Having gone through domestic violence myself and witnessed it when I was younger, I have been supported by this vital charity during my time of need.’
The nominator volunteers with the Friends of Safer to give something back to the charity and employees.
‘I, like many others, have seen the important work this charity does every single day to change the lives of those affected by domestic violence, whether physical, emotional or a combination.
‘They deserve to be recognised and commended for every single day.’
