People who make a real difference

THIS AWARD aims to acknowledge those who we rely on around the clock to help protect and keep us safe. Our emergency responders, including police, fire and ambulance services, along with our Coastguard, Air Search and lifeboat crews, are our comminuty guardians, on hand to deal with anything from major accidents to minor incidents, along with protecting our borders and carrying out life-saving rescues. Their work can be tough and is often done in extremely dangerous conditions on land, sea or air. Without their dedication and high standards, our islands’ unique safety would be jeopardised and lives would be lost. This is a chance to recognise their dedication.

NOW in our third year of sponsorship, here at Rossborough we continue to be awed by these amazing awards and especially the Emergency Hero of the Year Award.
We initially decided to sponsor this incredibly worthy award to celebrate our 80th year of providing personal, business and health insurance to Channel Islanders, and each year we have been continually surprised by the wealth of deserving nominations.
As an insurance broker, when our customers make a claim, we often hear about the involvement of the emergency services and the real difference they make.
Day in, day out, they respond to hundreds of
emergencies, putting themselves in danger and undertaking work that is demanding, tiring and in the most challenging of circumstances.
The sheer scope of the work that our emergency services do on a day to day basis is vast and how lucky we are to live in a place that is so safe thanks to their hard work and dedication. They are our community’s guardian angels and they deserve to be recognised.
Each of those nominated last year were outstanding in their own right and choosing a winner was incredibly difficult, as I am sure it will be again this year. Last year’s winner was Geoff George from the GSPCA, who has spent his life working tirelessly to help animals in need of emergency care, from sick seal pups to turtles.
I hope that once again, islanders will help the Guernsey Press and Rossborough recognise those islanders who risk their own lives to save others and find Guernsey’s Emergency Hero of the Year 2018.
