Lucy Waldrom

Lucy Waldrom has been nominated for Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Core Fund Services.

Lucy gained her teaching degree from the University of Kent and spent six years teaching on the Isle of Sheppey. During her time there, Lucy worked both within the school and the surrounding area to improve standards and participate in PE in school and in inter and intra-school competitions. 

After a gap year in New Zealand, Lucy moved home to Guernsey, where she began working on supply before being offered a permanent position at La Houguette in 2014. While at La Houguette, Lucy has worked across the year groups and has particularly enjoyed her early years lead role, as she enjoys welcoming children and families into their new school and making them feel like a part of the La Houguette family. 

Also involved in PE, Lucy has coordinated for the ‘Be Active’ framework, which works alongside the Health Improvement Commission to improve levels of physical activity for children. As part of the framework, she co-organised a ‘daily mile’ in school to encourage participation and undertook a ‘moki’ study to recognise children who may have lower levels of physical activity. 

‘This is incredibly important to me – to have children who are physically active and have a positive well-being, as well as having equal opportunities for all. 

‘I really just love my job. The children are the magic and are at the heart of what we do and I am lucky enough to be surrounded by such wonderful staff, children and parents.’
